Explanation of Terms

Sutra: Any one of the Buddha’s sermons. Also "thread" in Sanskrit.

Tantra: A text derived from the ancient Hindu Vedas. Also "weaving" in Sanskrit.

I Ching: In English, "The Book of Changes". One of the classics of Confucianism. The I Ching is used for divination and as a moral, philosophical, and cosmological text. It is based on 64 symbolic hexagrams. The symbolic significance of each hexagram is expressed in cryptic poetic passages and philosophical commentary. Ching is derived from the Chinese word for "weft".

Tao Te Ching: In English, "The Way and Its Power". The basic text of Taoist thought.

Quechua: A sacred language of the indigenous peoples of Chile and Peru. The name of the language may derive from q’eswa, a Quechua word meaning a rope made of twisted reeds.
